The Novenary Nights started on October 31, 2007 in honor of our blessed Patroness, Nuestra Señora Maria del Patrocinio. As a tradition every Novenary Night, there is usually some kind of ceremony taking place and being sponsored by a certain organization or groups that depicts what Boljoon is made of. Last Wednesday on October 31, 2007 also happened to be Halloween Day. Halloween Day is in fact part of the American culture, however, being as diversified as we are today, the National and Municipal Officials and Employees of Boljoon had the idea of having a Halloween Party for their special night. It was indeed a night full of creativity and guts. Every where you look there were different officials and employees of the local government wearing unique and frightening costumes that really illustrated the spirit of Halloween. In a way they were motivated in preparing their costumes since there were cash prizes for the 3 persons having the best Halloween costumes. First prize was Php 1, 500; Second prize was Php 1,000; and Third prize was Php 500. The first prize winner was Mrs. Grace Estella from the Department of Agriculture dressed as a witch. Miss Jodah Mae Pacifico from the Accounting Department took the second prize as Imang from Kampanirang Kuba. Lastly, the third prize winner was Mr. Benidicto Oliveros from the Department of Agriculture as well who portrayed the killer from the movie called “Scary Movie”. To top it all off the National and Municipal Officials and Employees also invited the Adelante Dance Troupe from the University of San Jose Recoletos as their guest performer. Everyone from the audience was awed by the performance that the Dance Troupe portrayed. Their costumes and choreography were outstanding. We were really entertained and it was worth seeing even from the highest section of the bleachers.

It was definitely inspiring to see that the local government of Boljoon was united in their celebration and each one participated in the said event. You can tell by their laughter and smiles that they were really enjoying themselves. This is only a glimpse of the whole celebration for our fiesta. I am sure there will be more to come. Until then...

KALABIRA NAKUYKUYAN

Mga bukog sa tawo nga gituhu-an nga kapin sa lima ka gatos ka tuig ang nakubkuban sa mga taga Department of Sociology and Anthropology sa University of San Carlos ug sa taga National Museum niadtong bulan sa Pebrero 2007 sa Muraya atubangan sa simbahan. Matod ni Prof. Jojo Bersales, chairman sa Socio/ Anthro Department sa University of San Carlos nga ang tawo nga ilubong nga adunay ipabalon nga butang sama sa porcelana nga plato, sundang, bakos og uban pa nga nagapamatuod nga kini panahon pa sa mga Pagano ug wala pa maabot ang mga pari nga Kastila niadtong tuig 1599 A. D. Ginadili sa mga Katoliko ang pagbalon uban sa minatay sa mga yutan-ong butang. Gituhu-an usab nga ang mga sakop sa Pagano nga mamatay anha ra sa ilang bungon sa balay ilubong kay wala pa may sam-ang sa unang panahon. Kini usab nagpamatu-od nga aduna nay naga puyo diha atubangan sa simbahan.

Ang mga “artifacts” nga nakuykuyan gidala sa mga nahisgutang ahensya aron tun-an ilabina anga ilang panuigun.

RESTORATION SA SIMBAHAN, GISUGDAN NA!

Human malangay ang plano sa paghiuli sa maong edipisyo, ang simbahan sa parokya sa Boljoon, gisugdan na gayud sa pag-ayu o ang gitawag na restoration.

Niadtong Abril 23, 2007, gisugdan na ang paghiuli o pag restore sa simbahan sa Nuestra Señiora Patrocinio de Maria. Unang bahin sa simbahan nga gisugdan ug paghiuli mao ang atop niini nga ginama sa “tisa”. Kasamtangan nga gipangtang-tang anga mga karaan nga “tisa” nga atop aron sa paghimutang niini, sama sa karaang hitsura.

Ang atop sa simbahan maoy una sa gitaga-an ug dakong pagtagad sanglit nangabuslot na man ang ubang bahin niini. Sa panahon nga dunay ulan, magtulo na sa simbahan nga nakapagabok sa pundasyon sa tibuok edipisyo, ilabi na gayud ang kisami niini diin makita nato ang talagasaon nga obra sa usa ka lumad nga Boljoanon.

Sa pagka karon ang unang bahin sa restoration, mao pa lang ang pag-ayo sa atop. Sa umaabot nga mga adlaw, mulambo pa ang maong buhat sama sa pagtrabaho usab sa ubang bahin sa simbahan, sanglit ang plano para man sa kinatibuk-an niini. Ug aduna pud gyuy plano nga gihan-ay aron sa paghigayon sa maong buhat.

Ang maong lakang sa pag-restore, gipasiugdahan ug gilangkuban sa mga nagpakabana nga mga pundok sama sa Boljoon Heritage Foundation Inc. (BHFI), inubanan sa Parish Pastoral Council ug sa Pangagamhanang Lokal sa Lungsod sa Boljoon, inabagan sa Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc. (RAFI) ug ilabi na gayud sa Lalawigan sa Sugbu. Ang RAFI mao ang usa sa mga non-government organizations
(NGO) nga naghatag sa ideya sa pag-restore sa simbahan isip usa ka National Historical Landmark ug National Cultural Treasure. Tanan nga lakang sa paghiuli ug pag preserbar niining bililhong kabilin, gisuporta-an ug gipaningkamotan sa mga Boljoanon aron dili mahanaw sa dayon ang talagsaon, makasaysayon ug mahinungdanon nga bahandi sa Boljoon.
